The Different Types Of PCB Assembly

A PCB Assembly is the last of a four-stage production of printed circuit boards, wherein components are placed to make the boards functional. Pcbnet.com are provide us your requirements and we create the PCB design. We use two general categories of board assembly, according to technology used and according to the duties performed.

In the technology used category, we are currently using three assembly technologies. One is the old and trusted, through-hole assembly. The second one is the SMT (surface mount technology). The newest in our company is the package-on-package (POP) assembly system.

Through-hole mounting technology (TMT) is the oldest among the three assemblies. It dates back to the first time electronics device was assembled and used. In this assembly process, we drill the printed circuit boards with holes and mount the components through the hole. The TMT PCB assembly may be an obsolete technology but is useful in the production of prototypes and simple PCB. It is still widely used in the assembly industry due to its coat efficiency and the stronger bond of the components to the board.

The Different Types Of PCB Assembly :

On the other hand, in an SMT process, we use surface pads to mount the components on the board. We still drill holes on the boards but the purpose is the placement of screws on the sides or anywhere on the board, depending on the client’s requirements. We place non-conducting materials such as plastic on the holes to prevent the screws from creating electrical reactions.

Pcb fabricationThe newest board assembly is the POP system. Actually, the POP is a development from the standard SMT. This technology makes our assembly process faster, especially for electronics devices that have complex requirements. We stack printed circuit boards on top of another board, one at a time or all at the same time after the first PCB is finished. Although this process requires additional software system and machines, the overall cost of assembly is lesser compared to when we use standard SMT in assembling complex PCBs.

The second type of our PCB assembly is according to the duties performed. We have the full and partial turn-key assembly.

In the full turnkey assembly, we perform everything, from the production of the board up to the assembly point. Just provide us your requirements and we create the PCB design. After designing, we create the prototype and send it to your company for approval. Once approved, we proceed with the production and assembly. The printed circuit boards arrive at your doorstep in good working condition.

In a partial turnkey assembly, we perform the assembly process and you provide us the printed circuit boards and the components. We recommend partial turn-key PCB assembly if you have your own PCB manufacturing. Outsourcing the assembly process is cheaper than establishing your own. You do not have to think of capital and labor requirements. If your company has a growing demand on PCBs, we can help you meet those consumers’ demands.
However, if you do not have PCB manufacturing department, we suggest that you try full turnkey assembly. You do not have to worry anything except to test the final output. Although we have done the testing before we send the PCBs, we encourage that you perform testing once you receive the PCBs. In cases that these boards are defective, send us the defective boards and state the defects found for proper evaluation. As long as the defects are due to the negligence on our part, we replace the defective boards with newer ones.

The PCB assembly has evolved a lot since the first PCBs were out on the market. In order to stay in the competition, we adopt the necessary changes in our company and be the company that people seek when it comes to their PCBs requirements. We uphold the principle of providing quality output to our clients. If you have more questions about how we achieve excellent products, please feel free to contacts us and be one of the many customers who trusted.
